Shrewsbury Academy Virtual 5K Challenge

We are encouraging all students, staff, parents and members of the community to take part in our Shrewsbury Academy Virtual 5K Challenge!

Since the lockdown there will be many people who have become less active, the benefits of exercise are massive both physically and mentally. From Monday 22nd June to Friday 17th July, we are challenging you to go on as many runs or walks as you can! During this time, we hope to track how many kilometres our school community manages to clock. Everybody that takes part will receive a medal for their participation in our Virtual 5K and you can enter multiple times.

All you need to do is email a screenshot of your distance/time to – k.dobson@sa.sat.coop. Great apps that can provide the above information amongst others are Strava, Runkeeper, Garmin, Fitbit.

Are you up for the #SA5KChallenge? Please share with your friends and post any photos of you taking part on our Facebook page from Monday – we would love to see them!

Update 24th June – to London

Those taking part in the #SA5KChallenge have already clocked up a total of 235km+ since commencing on Monday! This is a fantastic effort and means we are already not far from ‘virtually’ reaching London in distance travelled!

We’d like to give a special shout-out to the following students: Leo Robson, Jay miller, Keegan Harris and Leah Cookson for their impressive contributions. We also want to say well done to staff, with many either completing multiple runs or finishing their first 5K in years!

From what started out as a four week 5K challenge, evolved into a virtual distance race with so many participants clocking up way more km in one single walk, run or cycle. It has been amazing to hear so many stories of people who have embraced the #SA5KChallenge and will now continue with their running in the future.
