πΆ Stay & Play at Ditherington Community Centre! π
Looking for a fun and friendly space for your little ones to explore and play? Join the team at Ditherington Community Centre every Wednesday from 9:30am - 10:30am for Stay & Play! π§Έβ¨
This session is perfect for children aged 0-3 to engage in activities that help with their development, make new friends, and have lots of fun. π
π° Only Β£1 per session π€ In partnership with the 4 All Foundation π¨ Games, crafts, and social fun!
As part of their project on organs in Art, Year 9 students have been exploring the work of artist Jemma Millen, known for her stunning ceramic hearts. They researched her artwork, created research pages featuring images and facts, and shared their own opinions about whether they liked or disliked her work β and why. π
Next, students had the opportunity to apply what they learned by designing and creating their own clay hearts. They practiced essential skills such as hand modelling, slip and score, adding attachments, and using clay tools. The results were amazing! πΊβ¨
Well done, Year 9 β your creativity and craftsmanship truly shine through! π
Our Year 11 students have been hard at work investigating phototropism β how plants respond to light β as part of their GCSE Biology course. Here they are measuring cress seedlings that were germinated in full light, darkness, and shade. Next up, theyβll be exploring geotropism, where they'll study how plants respond to gravity, using runner bean seeds and investigating the growth of radicles, hypocotyls, and epicotyls. πΏβ¨
Meanwhile, our Year 7 students have been discussing the recent cold spell in their science lessons. They explored sledges and how to reduce friction, air resistance, and increase weight for speed, all while calculating resultant forces. βοΈ They then turned their attention to slippery pavements and hypothesized which studentβs shoes had the best grip (most friction). After testing everyoneβs shoes with Newton meters, congratulations to Harley, who came out on top with 6.8N per shoe β the least likely to slip on the ice! πβοΈ
Great work, Year 7 and Year 11 β youβre all showing fantastic curiosity and scientific skill! π¬π

πͺ Success Is a Mindset β Year 11 in Fighting Form! π₯
Our Year 11 students have kicked off 2025 with a strong start and a focused mindset! π§
Theyβve asked for revision sessions during lunchtimes to help prepare for their upcoming mock exams in February and, of course, their GCSEs next summer. π
The strategy? Little and often β spreading out revision to avoid cramming and improve recall. This technique, known as spaced repetition, is key to long-term success.
Hereβs the timetable for the Science revision sessions: π¬ Biology β Monday lunchtimes βοΈ Physics β Tuesday lunchtimes π§ͺ Chemistry β Thursday lunchtimes π All sessions take place with JAL in TC8.
These sessions are aimed at Separate Science students, but we also encourage Combined Science students to join us and tailor the sessions to their needs. Everyone is welcome! π
Well done, Year 11 β with this dedication, success in your GCSEs is assured! π―
Year 9 have been putting their investigative science skills to the test with a fun experiment: Which fruit makes the best battery? π§π
Using copper and zinc as battery terminals, the children explored how the ions in the fruitβs juices (electrolyte) react to generate electricity. They hypothesized that grapefruit would produce the highest voltage, but after carrying out their investigation, they discovered that lemon came out on top! πβ¨
Through repeated trials, they checked for anomalies and reflected on the accuracy and validity of their tests. What a fantastic way to apply scientific thinking and experiment with real-world principles!
Well done, Year 9 β you continue to amaze us with your creativity and curiosity! π¬π

A huge congratulations to Oscar Adams from Year 8 at Shrewsbury Academy! He took part in the Under 13 Boys County Championship and finished 1st overall in his age category! π
Oscar ran an incredible race, winning by an impressive 37 seconds in freezing cold conditions on the 3.2k course at Oswestry School. βοΈ
His performance was outstanding, and we couldnβt be prouder of his dedication and achievement! πββοΈπ¨
πΆοΈ The Gauntlet Has Been Thrown at Shrewsbury Academy! πΆοΈ
Our Science team is heating things up in 2025 with an exciting challenge β to grow the hottest and biggest chilli! π₯
Our very own Director of Science, a secret chilli aficionado, has been growing his own chillis every year in Lab 6, using them as a fun way to inspire students to study photosynthesis and the factors that affect it. π±
But this year, the rest of the science team is ready to challenge his chilli champion status! With seeds like "Armageddon," "Demon Red," and "Basket of Fire," itβs going to be a fiery competition. Who will come out on top in the League of Fire? π₯πΆοΈ
