Shrewsbury Academy marks a major milestone with the official opening of its brand-new facilities, including cutting-edge science laboratories, a modern library, and contemporary design and technology classrooms, all made possible through funding from the Department for Education and work by Tilbury Douglas.
This significant investment brings transformative change for children and young people in Shrewsbury, providing them with the learning environment they deserve.
Ryan Jervis, Chair of Governors, said: “This part of Shrewsbury has been underfunded for many years. While buildings alone do not educate children, this is a massive vote of confidence in our community and a clear sign that this school is moving forward. A huge thank you to the Marches Academy Trust for driving this project and ensuring our young people have access to first-class teaching and learning spaces.”
Jim Taylor, Headteacher at Shrewsbury Academy, shared his excitement: “I am absolutely delighted with the new space, it is truly transformative. These facilities reflect our best intentions and highest expectations for our children and young people. We are relentlessly ambitious for every single young person here, and they deserve nothing less.”
The day also welcomed local MP Julia Buckley, who praised the school’s progress and spirit: “I am blown away by the children, the staff, and the incredible sense of hope and optimism here. The nurturing environment, the teamwork, and the belief that every child matters is tangible. Please, feel as special as you are and be proud of what’s happening at Shrewsbury Academy.”
Shrewsbury Academy continues to rise, a place where young people are known, nurtured, and challenged to reach their full potential. With a strong emphasis on academic achievement, personal development, and community values, the school offers a safe, inclusive, and aspirational environment. The new facilities further strengthen the school’s ability to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum, preparing children and young people for success in further education, employment, and life.
This opening marks not just the unveiling of new buildings, but another new chapter for education in Shrewsbury, one that places children, young people, staff, and the wider community at its heart.
