Shrewsbury Academy Students Celebrate GCSE Success

There were smiles, celebrations and proud moments across Shrewsbury Academy today as students collected their GCSE results and reflected on years of hard work, perseverance and achievement.

Students, families and staff came together to celebrate the successes of the Class of 2026, marking an important milestone as students prepare for their next steps in education, training and employment.

Today’s results reflect the commitment and determination shown by students throughout their time at the academy, supported by dedicated staff and families who have encouraged them every step of the way. Shrewsbury Academy has continued to focus on raising aspirations, improving outcomes and creating a culture where every young person feels valued, supported and able to succeed.

Michelle King, Interim Executive Headteacher, said:

“Today is a proud day for our entire school community.

We are incredibly proud of our students and all they have achieved. Behind every set of results is a story of hard work, resilience and determination.

These young people have embraced opportunities, overcome challenges and shown great commitment throughout their time at Shrewsbury Academy. Today is an opportunity to celebrate not only their results, but also the personal growth, confidence and character they have developed along the way.

We are equally proud of the positive contribution they have made to our school community and would like to thank our families and staff for the support they have provided throughout the journey.

We wish every student every success and happiness as they move on to the next exciting stage of their lives.”

Among the students celebrating exceptional success were Megan Baldwin, who achieved an outstanding set of results including three Grade 9s, two Grade 8s and two Grade 7s; Weronika Woszczyna, who secured a Grade 9, three Grade 8s and three Grade 7s; and Dylogy Nheweyembwa, who gained an impressive profile of results including a Grade 9, three Grade 8s and two Grade 7s.

Other high-achieving students included Maya Adams, who achieved two Grade 8s, two Grade 7s and three Grade 6s; Ava Hess, who secured a Grade 9, a Grade 8 and further strong passes across her subjects; Carly Cheng, who achieved four Grade 7s alongside a Grade 8 and several Grade 6s; Selena Cherkezova, who gained a Grade 8 together with a number of Grade 6s and a Grade 7; Lily Ford, whose results included two Grade 7s and two Grade 6s; Beth Steen, who achieved two Grade 7s and three Grade 6s; and Sophie Braddick, who secured a Grade 8 and a Grade 7 among a strong set of results.

Alongside their academic achievements, students have played a full role in the life of the academy, contributing to enrichment activities, student leadership opportunities, community projects and charitable events. These experiences have helped create the strong sense of belonging that is such an important part of Shrewsbury Academy.

As one year group celebrates its achievements, the academy is also looking ahead to the future. Families considering Shrewsbury Academy for their child’s secondary education are warmly invited to attend the school’s Open Evening on Thursday 24 September from 4.00pm to 7.00pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet staff, tour the academy and discover more about the wide range of opportunities available to students.
